Chase

Posted on: November 28, 2008

Just a friendly reminder that there’s no new episode of Crusoe tonight. It will air next week on Saturday at 8 pm EST. So, with no Crusoe, I’m going to write about another show: Chase.
chase

There’s a new reality show in Sci-fi Channel called Cha$e. It’s inspired from video game, but the difference is, it’s a real life game, human players are situated on a real life game board, and they have to survive until the end of the game to win money. Each week, 10 players compete for up to $50,000. The game is simple, the contestants, called Runners, pick up money for each second they “stay alive” while figuring out how the secret exit of the game. “Stay Alive,” you ask? Yes, the game wouldn’t be fun if there’s no challanges. Other than having to complete some tasks, the Runners are not alone in the game field, they are surrounded and stalked by 8 relentless Hunters thoughout the life sized “game boards.” So, the runners must stay uncaught in the game and also must also be conscious of their time. As the clock counts down, the tasks get harder and the Hunters grow more insistent. The last person stays alive will win the cash.

I think this show is really fun, because for me it looks like a reality show of Bourne Identiy. Each Hunters has distinct skills, like: Agility, Speed Runner, and Endurance. Click here to see the Hunters’ profie. So highly skilled Hunters vs. 10 Runners, it doesn’t sound balanced with the Hunters’ ability and gadgets. But no worries, the Runners are given some gadgets to stay incognito:

  • Runner Pack – which has other functions other than storing stuff
  • Deflector – to deflect 1 hunter to about face 180 degrees from runner
  • Freeze Ray – to freeze 1 hunter for 1 minute
  • Sonic Stunner – to freeze mutiple hunters for 2 minutes
  • Invisibility Glasses – to become “invisible” to hunters for 2 minutes

All the utility gadgets can only be used once by the runners, so they have to carefully plan their moves. Also, not every one of them will be able to have access to those gadgets. In the end, all is fair in competition and money. Some will be savvy and others will be sacrificed. The action-packed show takes place throughout various locations in Los Angeles like San Pedro Harbor, Universal Theme Park and the Descanso Gardens.

This new show airs on Scifi Channel every Tuesday at 10pm EST. The first few episodes are already availabe online. Visit the show’s official website for more information and videos: http://www.scifi.com/chase/

On tonight’s Amazing Race, the team went to New Delhi, India. Since they got into the same flight, all the leads from previous race became useless. The frat boys, who finished last last week, managed to finish their first task: painting a tuk-tuk (3-wheel minicar). However, due to trouble on doing ironing, they were neck-to-neck in arriving last with Tina and Kenny who had a very hard time on the road because their cab drivers were lost. But Dandrew (the divorcees called the frat boys), arrived 5th, and this meant that Tina and Kenny were the last team to arrive. But fortunately, this week the race wasn’t eliminating anyone so they were safe, but, they’ll receive a speed bump, which would slow them down because they have to a special task that they have to complete.

Another thing, I can’t wait until next Friday, the opening of Madagascar 2. I soo love the first one. I think it was the first successful animation movie, and I’m sure everyone also has a high expectation. I do too, but as always, having high expectation isn’t good because I’ll end up dissapointed for expecting too much. Anyways, here’s the theatrical trailer of Madagascar 2, enjoy!

I like to Move It, Move It!

This week, the peaceful island was once again disrupted by foreigners. This time, a group of people (England ship crews and their hijackers) came to the island. Crusoe, wanting to get out of the island, made a deal with the ship captain that if he successfully gave the captain his commander-ship, the captain would take Crusoe and Friday out of the island. So Crusoe and Friday made a plan to free the captain. Initally, Crusoe wanted to recruit a kind-hearted pirate member, but he turned out to be a woman, and Crusoe hesitated. Their plan B is using the skulls and bones that Friday collected to scare the crews.

The plan worked, but due to some circumstances, they couldn’t help the captain. Friday and Crusoe’s duel exercises come in handy because they had to duel the captain and his right hand man. Friday managed to hurt the mutanerous’ leader, but I doubt he died. Crusoe managed to escape from the ship with few wounds, but the ship crashed into corals, so it looked like they were stuck in the island, and Crusoe still had hopes in leaving the island for good. We’ll see what happens next week.

If you miss Crusoe’s episode, you can always catch it online at nbc.com/crusoe or hulu.com/crusoe. It might not be availabe tonight, but it should be tomorrow. Anyways, here’s a clip from tonight’s episode. Happy watching!

Tonight on The Amazing Race, they moved to 3rd continent: Asia. They went to Cambodia to be exact, and over there they had to experience the local people’s life. They also got to visit the famous Angkor Wat temple. Anyways, Ty and Aja went home tonight. It’s kinda predictable, they were the last team leaving Auckland, and they got the flight to Cambodia a day after the first team. Even though, Terence & Sarah, and the frat boys were having problem, Ty and Aja just couldn’t catch up with them. But I’m glad that they left on good terms. Ty even said that he’d move to be with Aja.

Anyway, on my last post about Crusoe’s 2nd episode, I gave the post a title: “Crusoe and Friday and a mysterious skull.” So, I decided to change my first Crusoe’s title from “Crusoe, the Pilot” (lame, huh) to “Crusoe and Friday and the Pirates.” And from now on, I’m going to write every Crusoe post with title “Crusoe and Friday and …” 😛 I know it’s a little cheezy, but I can’t help it.

Other news, I just found out that there’s Monk on NBC just before The Amazing Race. Of course, it’s not the new episode of Monk, but it’s good enough. I didn’t have anything to watch at that time before, and I may catch up with some old Monk episode that I haven’t watched before.

So in this 2nd episode we know that the switch between Henry and Edward is broken and the organization cannot fix it, at least for now. So Henry must carry on Edward’s duties and vice versa. It’s a little tough on Henry though doing Edward’s job, he had to interogate someone. During Edward’s job, he had to be accompanied by Raymond, because Henry wasn’t capable in doing Edward’s job. Funny thing though, Henry’s job, especially his domestic duties with his wife, it was Edward who got to do the job, and this made Henry unhappy.

Anyway, in this episode Henry found out that the memory that he had over 19 years was fake. None of his old school friends was real, even his 8th birthday video was a fake. So he went to his college buddy, a doctor, to get a CT Scan of his brain, and he found out that there was a chip implanted on his brain. Terrified of Edward finding out about this, he even made a password (which only Henry knew) with the doctor. But in the end, Edward found out about this because the insurance company called his wife, and the next thing Henry knew, his doctor friend had died. Whether or not Edward killed him, we’ll find out next week.

I missed the premier of Crusoe last night, I was somewhere else when it started. I got home just in time to watch the last 1 hour, but I don’t like to watch something from the middle. But bless NBC it has the first episode online so I can watch it. If you want to watch it too, visit here: http://www.nbc.com/Crusoe/video/categories/season-1/771041/ I’m pretty sure that it’s on Hulu too.

At first, I was affraid that this show would be just another drama (not drama drama) type of show, but it’s quite entertaining. Good amount of action, adventure, and humor. There are also some flashbacks along the story to tell Crusoe’s background. The storyline is superb; even though I haven’t read the book, I’m sure this series stay true to the book.

So Crusoe is about Crusoe (duh) an English man who’s stranded on an island. Crusoe (Philip Winchester) befriended with Friday (Tongayi Chirisa), a native guy who he had saved from being sacrificed by his own tribe. Since Crusoe  has spent a lot of time in the island (no idea how long he’s been there), he managed to set up a lot of traps, make bridges, a SOS plan, and a tree house with amazing view equiped with its own OJ-making tool.

So the story started when Crusoe spotted a boat with English flag on it. Desperate to get back to his home, he turned on his SOS fire and he ran down to the beach to find his saviors; little did he know that those guys were pirates. So the pirate chased him away and finally caught him and made him their guide to find the treasure. Amongst those pirates, there was a pirate girl who’s really smart but tough.

Friday tried to helped Crusoe, and he ran across a Spanish guards who wanted to capture the pirates. So he led them in exchange that they’d let Crusoe go. The plan worked out really well, and he and Crusoe managed to get away while the Spanish guards cornered and captured those pirates. But when everything seemed to go back to normal and peaceful, they were ambushed again. Apparently, the pirate captain made a deal with the Spanish captain to share the gold in exchange for his freedom.

Crusoe found out about the whereabouts of the gold, it’s actually right under their beloved tree-house. They had to defend themselves by making the treehouse their fortress. The pirate girl snuck in during the night offering to help them, but they rejected the offer. The battle continued until the morning after when the intruders wanted to blow the tree house with dynamite. Luckily with Crusoe’s witty mind, they managed to blow the dynamite before it reached them and defeated the guards and the pirates.

When they went down to check the situation, the found the treasure: it’s a giant vase made of gold. Then Friday realized that the body count didn’t match the number of the intruders, so they went down to the beach and they found the Spanish captain captured the pirate girl and wanted to take her back to mainland. Crusoe told him about the gold but he didn’t believe it so they left. In the end, Crusoe and Friday threw the giant vase to the sea, and they stayed in the island for another day.

I think Crusoe is a great show, and Well, I think the pilot episode itself is worthty of being an independent movie. But, I can’t wait until next week for the next episode to see what new story it will bring. I’m particularly intriqued to see whether Crusoe will take Friday along with him to England once he’s rescued. As much as Crusoe missed his family, he valued Friday’s friendship so much and vice versa. It will be very sad to see Crusoe leaving Friday in the island where he’s a cast away from his tribe. But I don’t think it’s also possible for Friday to live in England, even though his English is good. Did I say that he could speak 6 languages? Well, we shall see what will happen to them.

Tonight was the premier of My Own Worst Enemy on NBC (10pm EST). It’s about Edward and Henry, same person, just different personalities. When Edward is “awake” on a mission, Henry is “asleep.” Edward is a spy and a womanizer, whereas Henry is a dedicated family guy.

This story began where Edward and Henry woke up at times they’re supposed to be asleep; Edward woke up at Henry’s house and Henry woke up during Edward’s mission causing him to be arrested. He was rescued by Raymond (a.k.a. Tom, Henry’s fellow officemate). Raymond/Tom was just like from Henry/Edward.

Anyway, so Henry found out about Edward, and a little bit about his secret. Funnily, Edward was the real person, and Henry was the alternate personality created by the organization Edward worked for. Edward is very secretive, even the Handler what Edward was thinking, so it’s up to Henry to reveal that. Edward volunteered to split his personality to prove his “free will.” The organization wanted to fix the situation because Henry found out too much about the organzation. So they re-brainwashed Edward/Henry.

But everything couldn’t go back to normal, because Edward’s nemesis, Oozie (not sure how to spell his name), came to Henry’s house to kill him. Thankfully, Edward already told Henry on a video what to do, so he could save his/their ass. So in the end, they know each other and they communicate and send message to each other through video. That should be interesting, I remember Henry told Edward, “there’s a difference between driving someone’s car and driving someone’s wife.” lol.

All in all, I like this series and I’ll be watching it again next week. If you miss it, I suggest you go ahead and watch it. I’m pretty sure that NBC will upload the pilot episode on its website: http://www.nbc.com/My_Own_Worst_Enemy/video/
