It’s been more than 3 months since Hulu Award Nomination kicked off and as a panelist, I’m exicted to see everything is coming together. We’re not quite done yet though, all along the panelists have been nominating movies/tv shows/tv network/movie studios/short films/clips just to narrow down the eligible nominees into 5 for each category. We don’t have the list quite yet, because we still have 2 last categories to nominate. I’ll make a long post of the final nominees for each category once we have everything. As for now, I’m going to recap the journey of Hulu Award Nomination.

In total, we’ve had 12 weeks where we had to pick proposed nominees for each category. These are the categories:

  • Week 1: Best Sports Programming
  • Week 2: Best Classic Show, Best 80’s Show, Best 70’s Show
  • Week 3: Best Horror Movies, Best Documentary Feature, Best Dramatic Short
  • Week 4: Best Competitive Reality Show, Best Non-Competitive Reality Show, Best Celebrity Driven Reality Show
  • Week 5: Best Comedy Movie, Best Comedy TV Show, Best Comedic Short Films
  • Week 6: Best Dramatic Movie, Best Short Format Series (Comedy), Best Short Format Series (non-Comedy)
  • Week 7: Best Family Movie, Best Anime Series, Best Cartoon Series, Best Animated Shorts
  • Week 8: Best Travel/Leisure Show, Best Cooking/Food Show, Worst Reality Show
  • Week 9: Best Classic Movie, Best Action TV Series, Best Web Original, Worst Web Original
  • Week 10: Best Sci-Fi Movie, Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Series, Best Video Games Coverage, Worst Movie, Worst TV Series
  • Week 11: Best Talk & Interview Show, Best Informational Show, Best News Show, Best Major Network, Best TV Network, Best Movie Studio
  • Week 12: Best Movie, Best Scripted TV Show, Best Unscripted TV Shows, Best Comedy Clip, Best Non-Comedy Clip

As you can see, in the first week, we only had 1 category but as the week went by we got more and more categories to work with. I’m not complaining 😛 I like my job as the panelist; it’s been a major fun. Hats off to Matt, the Hulu Man, who worked so hard organizing this award. Keep up the good job 🙂

This week on Hulu Award Nomination: the theme is Sci-Fi/Fantasy (my favorite theme so far). There are 3 new and 2 old categories this week and they are: Best Sci-Fi Movie, Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Series, Best Video Games Coverage, Worst Movie, and Worst TV Series. For science fiction, fantasy, and video game lovers (like me!), I’m sure you’ll have your opinions on which SciFi/Fantasy movie or TV show that you think deserve an award. It might be tough to pick just one, but don’t worry you can nominate more than one. The comments are yours for taking 🙂 So here it goes:

4. Worst Movie and Worst Scripted TV Series. These are two separate categories, but the eligible candidates are the same from the eligible nominees from the Best Movie and TV shows from all genres. If I copy paste all of them this post will be very very long. Instead, if you really want to see the nominees, follow these links: Action, Classic, Family & Cartoon, Drama, Comedy, Horror, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Or, you can just simply nominate anything you want, and if they’re eligible, I’ll take your input into account.

You can nominate any movie/series you want, as many as you wish. If you never heard of any of them and interested in watching it, you can always borrow or rent the DVD, or to watch it for free, go to Hulu.com and search for the title, just make sure that it belongs to the right category. Again, if you cannot watch Hulu (I understand that Hulu currently is only available in US), you can still nominate any of these shows if you happen to know and like any of them.

PS: I know that not maybe none of your favorite shows/movies is listed above, but if you just happen to know or like a little, you can nominate them. Since this is a Hulu Award, we can only nominate shows that are available on Hulu. But then again, you can always comment and nominate whatever show you want 🙂 I’d love to hear what shows/movies you like. Happy commenting 😀

If you’ve watched Superbad, you’ll remember Michael Cera’s McLovin character. That character launched Cera’s acting career. Well, for you youngsters who wants to be the next McLovin, here’s your chance. Universal Pictures is looking for a McLovin type of guy for a new comedy starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin. No prior acting experience is necessary, but you need to be able to channel McLovin to play Edward, a 17 year old high school student. Open auditions are over already but you can still submit your audition videos online at: http://www.meganlarchecasting.com/submissions.html Deadline for this audition is January 16, 2009.

So I spent most of my christmas weekend sitting on a dark room eating popcorn and soda. Yes, you guessed it right, I watch a lot of movies! I have to say thanks again for those who give me AMC gift card, loved the gift! So I watched a lot of movies, really alot. Be ready to read my (amateur) movie critics 😛 I promise, I won’t write any spoilers.

Yes Man

I love Jim Carey, and this movie didn’t dissapoint me. I’ts about a loser who turned his life around by saying Yes to anything. It’s funny, it’s crazy, and has a little romantic side. Well, some people are angry due to some of it’s “sexual” jokes. Meh, I think if your kids are as innocent as you think they are, they’re not gonna understand the joke, so it’s safe.  Anyway, on the Rating section, it’s already been writen that it has some sexual humor and brief nudity, so you’ve actually been warned. *shrugs*

Seven Pounds

Not really a fan of Will Smith in a serious dramas, but what can I say, he’s a great actor. I watched Pursuit of Happiness, and I liked it, so I was sure that I was gonna like this one too and I wasn’t wrong. As promised, the story delivers many layers and secrets, why Ben Thomas did what he did, but overall the story is solid. If you are a sucker for a great drama, this film will satisfy you.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

When I decided to purchase the ticket for this movie, I didn’t really know what to expect, except a touching story. I have a mixed review on this film. I think the film is beautiful, graceful, and touching, but I just couldn’t help but think how Benjamin Button going to die as a baby. The journey that Button experienced somehow reminded me of Forest Gump, but overall great movie.

The Spirit

I saw the trailer and I thought this movie might be cool, even though not a fan of black-n-white style. It turned out that black-n-white part was okay, but not the movie. Yeah sure, I didn’t expect this movie to have an Oscar-level performance, but the acting was horible (never liked Eva Mendes in any film, and this one is no exception). Maybe it’s the side effect of black-n-white camera, I don’t know.

Marley & Me

A decent comedy, but not really great. Chemistry between Aniston and Wilson is great, but Marley is the star of the film, but that’s about it. It tried to be sentimental and touching when Marley …. (I leave it blank so it won’t spoil you), but I don’t really buy it. Just like Yes Man, lots of parents tried to shield their children from mild-sexual jokes and scenes.

The Day The Earth Stood Still

I didn’t watch the original but I heard it was great. This remake was okay, I like the action, but the CGI was so-so. Maybe it’s just me, but when I was watching this movie, I kept on remembering War of the Worlds. If you are absolutely a sci-fi fan, you’ll love it more than I do.

There are still a couple of other movies that I want to see: Slumdog Millionaire, Australia, Valkyrie and probably Doubt and Frost/Nixon, but I don’t know if I have enough credit on my gift cards for it. I already promised my niece and nephew that I’m going to take them watch Bedtime Stories, and probably Tale of Desperaux too.

Continuing the Hulu Award Nomination, this week’s theme is Family and Cartoons. There are 4 new and exiting categories this week and they are: Best Family Movie, Best Anime Series, Best Cartoon Series, and Best Animated Shorts. For cartoon and anime lovers, I’m sure you’ll have your opinions on which series you think deserve an award. It might be tough to pick just one, but don’t worry you can nominate more than one. So comment away 🙂 Again, I’m using excerpt due to the long list of eligible nominees, especially we have the most nominees so far. Click on read more to view the eligible candidates and to comment.
